1952 Mid CentuWooden Trinket Box, Sculptural Cherry/Walnut
$49
A beautifully precise piece of mid-century Canadian craftsmanship, this custom-made trinket box was produced in 1952. Handcrafted by Woodworks in Guelph, Ontario, the piece features an exceptionally crisp, authentic maker's stamp on the underside of its base, documenting its historical regional provenance.
The box is expertly built using a lamination technique of alternating bands of solid cherry and walnut wood, showcasing a rich contrast of natural brown tones. It features a highly unusual, architectural silhouette with an ingenious mechanical design—the curved, compartmentalized body smoothly rolls backward on a fixed pivot to reveal a clean internal storage compartment designed for small jewelry, desk items, or keepsakes. The front is fitted with a clean, light wood turned dowel handle serving as the pull.
Dimensions:
Height: 6 inches
Width: 2.75 inches
Depth: 2.5 inches
Condition Profile:
The piece is in strong, fully functional condition. The wood grain retains its original smooth finish and deep color variation, and the rolling mechanical action operates flawlessly without catching. A minor cosmetic chip is present on the lower right edge of the base block, which is entirely stable and does not impact the stability or presentation of the piece.
