Vintage Black Americana Mammy Coin Bank
$200
This is a rare primitive folk art Black Americana piece of American history dating back to the early to mid-1930s to 1950. In nice condition, usually you find these in horrible shape. I did find a few similar ones on other websites going upwards of $250 to $400. This historical collectible is a hand-painted, heavy cast iron coin bank molded in the form of a “Mammy figure." She is standing with her feet apart and her hands on her hips, wearing a red dress with a white shawl collar, white waist apron, and black shoes. A red kerchief with yellow polka dots covers her head. She has brown eyes and a smiling, pink mouth. A rectangular hole for inserting coins is located at the center of the figure's back. The cast iron bank looks completely original and unrestored. It is roughly 7 3/4 inches tall and does not show any signs of being a reproduction. The majority of the paint is still intact and the colors are bold. The screw appears to be original, and overall, this is an attractive piece of Americana. Great gift idea or decorative item for any kitchen or dining area. Perfect gift for any collector of Black Americana.
