Large Vintage Hand-Knotted Persian Wool Area Rug

A vintage power-loomed Persian area rug. This wool pile rug is rendered in a palette of cranberry, indigo, sage, goldenrod, cornflower, wheat, camel, and custard. It commences with an implied medallion comprised of lobed rosettes, oak leaves, and animal motifs. The field is densely populated with shah abbasi palmettes, birds, floral racemes, purling vines, and spotted beasts. Framing the field are floral guard and secondary borders, while the primary border features a figural design comprised of bird roosting in trees and nests full of eggs alongside stylized feathers on a sapphire ground. The rug is finished with overcast selvedges and wool warp fringe, both of which have been reinforced. It is unlabeled. Worn condition. Balding to pile present at lower center, missing, repaired, and uneven fringe, retained fringe shows moderate wear, fray and unraveling to selvedges, fringe binding detached at one corner. Must be picked up from second floor walk-up July 6, 11, 12, or 13.
