The top sunshade rolls back to reveal a mesh closure to keep kitty/puppy contained, and the sides are strong and powerful mesh that kitty/puppy can look through to see the world around, without risk of over heating. The backpack straps are padded, and the lumbar region of the pack is likewise padded. Conveniently adjustable, with locking straps to keep the pack closed even if the zippers at the bottom opened. Very safe! An excellently designed product, with a soft fleecy matt inside that is washable. I love this item, and wish my kitty did to. Just not the right thing for us.
