This handcrafted solid pewter stein honors the great German Romanticist self-taught painter Carl Spitzweg. His artwork is beautifully detailed on the main body as well as the lid, including Der Briefbote (The Postman), Der Jugendfreund (The Childhood Friend), Der ewige Hochzeiter (The Eternal Bridegroom) and Der arme Poet (The Poor Poet). Two portraits of Carl Spitzweg in youth (1837) and as an older man (1880) are also featured on the lid. The main panel reads: "Carl Spitzweg 1808-1885. Maler und Zeichner besinnlicher Motive aus der guten alten Zeit", which translates as "Painter and illustrator contemplative motifs from the good old days" The back panel reads "Carl Spitzweg 1808-1885. Skurrile Figuren aus der liebenswerten Welt des Biedermeier." which translates as: "Whimsical figures from the lovely world of the Biedermeier (an era of cultural growth in Europe)" Made in Austria
