1880’s Family Bible by John E. Potter

This all-original and authentic 19th Century Family Holy Bible. This beautiful bible was expertly crafted by the John E Potter & Co of Philadelphia, a book publisher who specialized in history and religious books and was in operation from the early 19th century until the beginning of the 20th century. This bible contains the Old and New Testament along with aids to the study of the bible. It has chronological , genealogical and miscellaneous tables with historical and other explanatory matter to promote a better understanding of the Bible. There are several hundred engravings, maps and plans included in its pages. The piece is beautifully and expertly made. The front cover, back cover, and spine are crafted of brown leather with gilded religious imagery and detailing. The front and back cover both feature a low relief center molded panel. The pages of the book are beautifully printed with biblical images; the text is printed in a multitude of lovely and different fonts. This Victorian-era bible was published in the 1880’s in Philadelphia. The bible is in good condition, with wear and tear commensurate with age, fragility, and type of use. Leather cover has distressing expected from a book over 130 years old. The cover and bindings are intact and in good condition. Yellowing and distressing to pages commensurate with age but still readable and enjoyable. A truly beautiful bible which would make a very special gift.
