Extremely intricate marquetry composition, meticulously comprised of various shapes and types of inlaid wood. This mid century work of art was Made in Germany, by Buchschmid and Gretaux, and sold in Heidelberg by Otto Schlup, who was the principal representative of the Buchschmid and Gretaux Wood inlay company. It's entitled: "The Book Worm", and is modeled after the 1850 painting by Carl Spitzweg. It's in good condition, however being from the 1950's, there are some small imperfections, and the vintage frame shows typical wear. Since it's composed of wood, some people like to oil them, to keep the wood moist, and bring out the details of the various wood grains. Others strongly advise against doing so. Since I've owned it, I've left it in it's original state, and it doesn't appear to have ever been oiled. The inlaid panel measures 15 x 22 1/2 inches. With frame, it measures 16 7/8 x 24 3/16. This picture would look great in any library. Would also make a great gift. Pick up or view in Glenbrook, SW *Reasonable offers will be considered*
