Up for auction is a magnificent, large-scale vintage mid-century modern art glass statement vase by Empress / Ucagco, Japan. Standing at an impressive 16 inches tall with a wide 7-inch ruffled rim, this substantial piece serves as a striking centerpiece or floor accent.
The vase features a brilliant, deep cobalt blue body expertly fused to a heavy, clear glass footed base. The top rim is hand-manipulated into a beautiful six-point crimped ruffle, showcasing the high-quality craftsmanship of mid-century glassblowing. Thicker folds of the glass present a dramatic midnight-blue opacity, while the body catches the light with stunning translucency.
The underside of the base retains its original vintage clear "HAND MADE" label fragment. Empress / Ucagco (United China and Glass Company) ,Japan was a highly regarded mid-century distributor known for importing exceptional artisan glass to the North American market, perfectly emulating the luxury Italian Murano styles of the 1950s and 1960s.
Condition Report
Excellent vintage condition. Beautiful glass clarity with no cracks, chips, fleabites, or internal water stains. The applied clear glass base is sturdy and structurally sound.
