Vintage Large Chinese Porcelain Lucky Peach Carried by 3 Boys

    Art & Collectibles ·

    $150

This amazing piece really is in perfect condition with no chips or cracks. The gilt detailing is pristine with no wear off of the gold. It is large: 10.5" tall and 9.5" wide at it's widest. It is also quite heavy for its size - a solid 3.75 lbs. Please note that there are many smaller, less detailed versions of this design, this is the large one. This piece is older - there are newer issues where the sculpting is not at detailed and the painting is not as fine. This is a superior older mold - you can tell as the newer ones on the underside have hollow feet and are not as heavy as this piece. This charming piece of artwork would be a spectacular addition to your decor or it could become the focal point of your vintage collection. The workmanship on this piece is quite superior compared to some smaller versions that I have seen with this theme. Just take a look at these faces - wonderful. These three little boys embody such joy (I wonder if they are three immortal gods that have just been transformed into youths - no wonder they are so happy). I just love their happiness as they carry this giant peach - it makes me smile just to look at them. The detailing in the sculpting and in the painting makes them almost look real. The peach in China symbolizes youth and longevity and is traditionally knows as one of the "Three Blessed Fruits". The story is that the queen mother of the West (Xiwangmu) grows peaches of immortality in her garden and every three thousand years she gathers together all the immortals so that they eat the ripe peaches and it makes them young again. Which makes this the perfect special gift for a landmark birthday. But the peach is also considered to be lucky and that makes it the perfect special present for the New Year, a wedding, a graduation, a new job, a new house…or even to yourself - don't we all need some extra luck?
