Collection of 8 vintage and modern military-history books covering WWII from the British Home Front and Churchill’s wartime leadership to North Africa, the Battle of the Bulge, Pacific War and one of WWII’s most famous intelligence operations. The collection includes two volumes by Winston S. Churchill, Canadian war correspondent Matthew Halton’s Ten Years to Alamein, John Toland’s classic history of the Battle of the Bulge, and the heavily illustrated Ocean Front covering the Pacific War. Several retain their original vintage dust jackets and make excellent reading or display pieces for a military-history collection. Included / Individual Prices: 1. Vintage copy showing noticeable wear to the covers. 2. The Gathering Storm — Winston S. Churchill — $25 Volume I of Churchill’s The Second World War, covering the events leading to WWII and Churchill’s return to government. Vintage Book-of-the-Month Club edition with dust jacket. 3. Their Finest Hour — Winston S. Churchill — $25 Volume II of Churchill’s The Second World War, covering the critical period of 1940, including the fall of France and Britain’s continued resistance. Original dust jacket present, with considerable age-related wear. 4. Ten Years to Alamein — Matthew Halton — $35 Vintage wartime book by celebrated Canadian correspondent Matthew Halton, drawing on his experiences reporting from Europe and North Africa. Published in Toronto in 1944. 5. Battle: The Story of the Bulge — John Toland — $25 Classic account of Hitler’s final major offensive on the Western Front. Toland’s work was originally published in 1959 and remains in print today. 6. The Home Front: The British and the Second World War — Arthur Marwick — $20 Illustrated social history examining civilian Britain during WWII, including Dunkirk, the Blitz, rationing, D-Day and everyday life on the Home Front. 7. Operation Mincemeat — Ben Macintyre — $15 Highly regarded modern account of the extraordinary Allied deception operation that used a dead man’s fabricated identity to mislead Nazi Germany about Allied invasion plans. 8. How England Saved Europe — W. H. Fitchett — $25 Antique red-cloth historical volume with gilt lettering and decoration. Unlike the other books, this concerns the earlier European wars surrounding Revolutionary and Napoleonic France rather than WWII. Individual prices total $195. Take all 8 for $140 OBO. A nice mixed collection for anyone interested in WWII, Winston Churchill, Canadian military history, the British Army, North Africa, the Pacific theatre, Battle of the Bulge, wartime intelligence and military history generally. Condition varies considerably due to age. Several of the older books retain their original dust jackets, which show varying degrees of edge wear, tears, chipping, discoloration and general handling/storage wear.
